Summer Baseball!
Last night the 7/8th grade NYBA team I am a coach of had their first Summer League game.
Which they WON 9-8 with the winning run scored on a passed ball.
We had some solid play and timely hitting and base running. Our starting pitcher (number two son of mine!) pitched 3 solid innings for us and only allowed 2 runs.
Our Number 1 pichter
The team we beat, handled us easily in the spring season so it was a nice win.
Plus they have 5 tournament team kids on the team as opposed to our 1, whom was not there last night!
Now the Tournament and Traveling Teams are decided by “tryouts”. Okay I will agree with that and for the most part it works and as I have coached since my son started playing ball I know most of the players and Dads and have come to somewhat understand, maybe not agree with, the politics involved.
What I have questions about is that the Tournament Team members are assigned to in house teams for the Spring/Summer 7/8 league. Now these are supposedly the “better” players and most are and are some good kids also.
So why do we have teams with 7 (1), 5 (2), 3 (2) and 1 (mine) of the “Tournament ” players. We have 6 teams and should have 4 per team, just to make it equitable and fair. But we don’t and I am confident we will do just fine for the most part if we play as we did last night.
Cause I know if I complain I’ll be the “bad” guy again and just get pissed and call one of the “important”people in the league and a$$hat or some such thing!!
