Michael Barone – Farewell to the ‘Decade of Fear’

As midnight approached on Dec. 31, 1999, people wondered whether their computers, unable to process Y2K dates, would crash, causing planes to fall out of the sky, elevators to get stuck in their shafts and computer systems to frizz out. But as the world, starting at the International Date Line in the mid-Pacific, moved into the new decade, century and millennium, it became clear there would be no disaster.

Perhaps the billions of dollars in Y2K fixes had paid off; perhaps the precautions had been unnecessary. Whatever. We had lived through a decade of expanding freedoms and economic prosperity and had successfully, it seemed, anticipated and warded off disaster. We had reached the end of history. It seemed like clear and happy sailing ahead.

No such luck. The decade beginning 1-1-00 has been a time of one unanticipated disaster after another. Our powers of prognostication proved paltry. Experience has taught us again and again that there was more to fear than even the most respected experts expected. A decade of unexpected successes has been followed by a decade of unexpected fears.

Starting with the inauguration of America’s First Black President(a great thing for America) and not Born in the USA(A bad thing!)!!

A President whom is driving us to ruin with his social spending programs and takeovers of American Institutions! Communist? Socialist? He seems to take a little from each!! So here at the end of 2009 the Country is divided, polarized and in many cases just plain pissed off! Our Esteemed Leader is strongly supported by the leftist Media, might as well call it State run media, and the Dhimmicrats lead by Pelosi and Reid.

They use scare tactics whenever they have to to get what they want. Be it Healthcare, “the worst healthcare in the world”!! No it is not, but they refuse to look at facts and want to turn it into something resembling Englands people killing National Health Services.

Or the Global Warming Scam wrought on us by Al Gore, the Dhimmicrats and others seeking to make big bucks off of this scam. By running around in their private kets and limo’s screaming the “Sky is falling” and we need to cut back on our carbon footprint, this in a world based on carbon!! I’ll give these fruitcakes a  carbon footprint!!

We have the Cap and Trade Tax or should I say crap on American businesses tax! Yes again it is a scam, but the State run media refuses to look at and report on all sides of the story. Duh! What else is new! It is a scam! A little exerpt from American Thinker

We need Tort reform. Period. Lawyers, especially trial lawyers have way to much control and their suits, many of them frivolous and many unwarranted.

Then one sees a comment like this.

Medical malpractice plaintiff attorneys continue to press their argument that lawsuits are essential to the nation’s health care.

BULL!! The problem is that so many elected Congress and Senate Members are lawyers!! SO we are not going to see TORT refrom until we kick their lame asses out!!

Timothy P. Carney – GM rehires lobbyists — and taxpayers foot the bill

GM, the failed carmaker whose $400 million in monthly losses is borne mostly by U.S. taxpayers, has in recent months hired high-priced K Street lobbyists to petition Washington for subsidies, special tax breaks and other government favors on top of the $52 billion in aid the Treasury has already provided.

In June, GM began firing its outside lobbyists as part of downsizing its entire $10 million-a-year lobbying operation. As company spokesman Greg Martin told Roll Call, "We have begun notifying our outside consultants that we will be terminating their contracts." But GM has since rehired two of its old K Street firms, the Duberstein Group and Greenberg Traurig, and picked up new representation in the firm GrayLoeffler.

A bizarre new line of attack is emanating from congressional Democrats reeling from concerns the Obama administration may not be doing enough to keep American air-travelers safe.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Janet Napolitano’s bizarre "the system worked" statement regarding an Islamic radical who smuggled powerful explosives on board a U.S.-bound flight was swiftly condemned. Following that public debacle, Democrats are trying to blame the Transportation Safety Administration’s total failure on Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.
