I recently ran a screen for safe stocks that yielded at least 2%. One of the interesting stocks that came up was Sturm Ruger & Company (RGR). Ruger is a firearms manufacturer. They make rifles, pistols, and revolvers and sell them (mostly) to wholesale distributors. End customers are public and law enforcement. This is a profitable business (as we will see when we look at the financials) but is obviously subject to extra political / legal risks that most manufacturing companies are not. Second Amendment: Bills and Treaties

“It shall be unlawful for any person who lawfully possesses or owns a firearm that has been shipped or transported in, or has been possessed in or affecting, interstate or foreign commerce, to fail to report the theft or loss of the firearm, within 24 hours after the person discovers the theft or loss, to the Attorney General and to the appropriate local authorities.” So reads Section 123 of the Senate’s gun control bill (S. 649). In plain English, that means anyone who fails to report a missing firearm to the local police and the U.S. attorney general within 24 hours becomes a felon and faces five years in prison. This is an outrageous and unreasonable requirement, and should doom the bill to failure. And that’s not to mention other provisions such as prohibiting leaving your firearm at home for more than seven days with someone who isn’t the owner.

Meanwhile, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) is pushing the Firearm Risk Protection Act, which would require that gun owners purchase liability insurance or pay a $10,000 fine. “For too long, gun victims and society at large have borne the brunt of the costs of gun violence,” Maloney said in a written statement. “My bill would change that by shifting some of that cost back onto those who own the weapons.” We’re going out on a limb by guessing that criminals won’t be deterred by such a requirement, but fortunately the bill is unlikely to go anywhere.

In the states, the Constitution State became the latest one to trample its namesake document. Democrat Gov. Dannel Malloy signed legislation adding more than 100 firearms to its ban on semiautomatic rifles. It also bans standard-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds and creates eligibility rules for purchasing ammunition.

The good news, reports The Wall Street Journal, is that since December “states have passed more measures expanding rather than restricting the right to carry firearms.”

Finally, the UN passed its Arms Trade Treaty with U.S. support. The Obama administration waited until it had post-election “flexibility” to announce that it would no longer demand passage by “consensus,” which helped propel the treaty through. The treaty could subject, at least in part, U.S. sovereignty and Second Amendment rights to a corrupt world body full of anti-American despots and tyrants. The only good news is that the treaty has almost no chance of passing the Senate, where it needs a two-thirds majority for ratification but could fail to garner even a majority.

Senate votes 53-46 to stop US from joining UN Arms Trade Treaty

Posted on March 23, 2013 by Nick Leghorn The Hill is reporting that the U.S. Senate voted on and passed an amendment to the budget bill that would keep the U.S. from signing onto the UN arms trade treaty. Many have been concerned that the treaty, which does not differentiate between military and civilian firearms, would be used as a back door to enact sweeping gun control regulations in the United States. With the passage of this amendment (by a vote of 53 – 46) it signifies that ratifying such a treaty would be impossible with the current Senate. A Democrat also offered an amendment that clarifies that the U.S. constitution trumps all treaties, which was passed as well.

They wanted to see if he owns any firearms and wanted to check if they are registered. Fortunately the man stood his ground and refused the warrantless searches. Gun registration is an offensive concept. If you truly believe we live in a current/developing police state, why in the hell would you want the government to know what you are armed with? Registration is a necessary step before confiscation. It is absolutely NONE NONE NONE NONE of the government’s business what you own. New Jersey is on the forefront of the police state. Most states, mine included, have no such thing as a registry of guns. And we need to fight to keep it that way. It annoys me how widespread this misconception is (thanks to Hollywood).

Contrary to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) contention that the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) “is consistent with the Second Amendment” and “would not require new domestic regulations” to hamper the exercise of the rights therein, the reality is that if ratified, the ATT could make guns as scarce as ammo and the exercise of the Second Amendment difficult indeed.

UN Global Gun Ban Flimflam

On November 7, the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly voted 157-0 (with 18 abstentions) in favor of Resolution L.11 that will finalize the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in March 2013.

China, the United Kingdom, and Germany all voted to move the historic measure toward passage.

As we have reported, when the treaty was being deliberated in July, the United States was the only obstacle preventing the global arms control regulations from being imposed on the world.

GOA: The political Left is firing back.

We alerted you recently to how our country’s representatives to the United Nations — in less than 24 hours after the President’s reelection — cast a vote in favor of producing a UN gun control treaty in March, 2013.
The full-throttled march towards gun control has begun.
But liberal media outlets are now going to bat for the Administration and trying to convince Americans that the UN Arms Trade Treaty will not affect average gun owners.  For example, Media Matters calls efforts by the gun community to raise awareness of this treaty as nothing more than a “right-wing U.N. gun grab conspiracy.”
However, they couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Retired Lt. Gen. William Boykin said earlier this year that, “[The ATT] means the United Nations, an international body, will decide how you and I as Americans can buy and sell our weapons, how we control those weapons, who is authorized to have those weapons and where they are. This is a dangerous trend.”
Gen. Boykin is absolutely correct.  And this is why Gun Owners of America is pressing U.S. Senators to reject the outlandish lies from the political Left and to oppose the President’s gun control agenda.
GOA has the facts and the information to show Senators that the UN Arms Trade Treaty will adversely affect the rights of their gun-owning constituents.
There is no doubt that the UN treaty will infringe upon our Second Amendment rights.  While GOA has already written a more detailed analysis of this treaty, consider just one Article in the treaty which would, undoubtedly, lead to gun owner registration:
“State Parties shall put in place adequate measures that will allow them, where necessary, to MONITOR and CONTROL imports of [weapons, and to] adopt appropriate measures to prevent the diversion of imported items to unauthorized end users or to the illicit market.” (Article 8)
Elsewhere the treaty requires each nation to “adopt appropriate legislative, administrative or OTHER MEASURES [aka, Executive Orders] to monitor and control” firearms.
This treaty would pave the way for an anti-gun Obama Administration to unlawfully impose registration restrictions — just like they did last year when they imposed gun owner registration in four southwest border states as the “answer” to Operation Fast & Furious.
This is a huge problem, as gun registration has historically been a first step towards gun confiscation!
We cannot stay silent.  We must take action.
Take action.  And then distribute this email far and wide!

But with Obama firmly entrenched for four more years, the U.S. officially went on record this week to support a new round of talks on the UN Arms Trade Treaty.
Whereas he once told Sarah Brady he was pushing gun control “under the radar,” now he can openly launch broadsides against our gun rights.
On Wednesday, the U.S. joined 156 other countries in voting to finalize the treaty in March, 2013.  Russia was the only major country to vote against.
Several media outlets have reported that the Obama Administration temporarily withdrew its support for the treaty this year, amid fears that such support could hurt him in the November elections.  According to Reuters, “Obama feared attacks from Republican rival Mitt Romney.”
Gun Owners of America worked with Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) earlier this year to get 50 other Senators — some of them Democrats — to send a letter to the President opposing the treaty.
It was this letter, says Reuters, which prompted the Obama Administration to start “derailing the effort back in July.”
But now, with the President firmly ensconced in Washington for another term, the President is going to press hard for this gun control treaty.
So Gun Owners of America will be working hard with the new Senate to oppose the treaty.  And should the President sign it — and begin lawlessly implementing the treaty through Executive Orders — GOA will press the House and Senate to begin defunding his efforts.
