Which divides the State’s Legislatures into Red (Fulltime) and Blue (Part time).
Red Legislatures
Red legislatures require the most time of legislators, usually 80 percent or more of a full-time job. They have large staffs. In most Red states, legislators are paid enough to make a living without requiring outside income. These legislatures are more similar to Congress than are the other state legislatures. Most of the nation’s largest population states fall in this category. Because there are marked differences within the category, we have subdivided the Red states. Those in Red generally spend more time on the job because their sessions are longer and their districts larger than those in Red Lite. As a result, they tend to have more staff and are compensated at a higher rate. Within subcategories, states are listed alphabetically.
Blue Legislatures
In the Blue states, on average lawmakers spend the equivalent of half of a full-time job doing legislative work. The compensation they receive for this work is quite low and requires them to have other sources of income in order to make a living. The blue states have relatively small staffs. They are often called traditional or citizen legislatures and they are most often found in the smallest population, more rural states. Again, NCSL has divided these states into two groups. The legislatures in Blue are the most traditional or citizen legislatures. The legislatures in Blue Lite are slightly less traditional. States are listed alphabetically within subcategories.

Democrats are bringing their finance bills to the floor in the next few days to set the state budget for the next biennium. This week on the floor, I questioned why Democrats are demanding hard-working Minnesotans pay more in taxes to fund wasteful government spending programs. MORE PET PROJECTS UNVEILED
House Democrats announced their bonding recommendations which include $858 million of taxpayer money for pet projects. Bonding bills are generally reserved for even-numbered years and for projects with broad statewide impact on our infrastructure. In this bill, however, Democrats have asked Minnesota taxpayers to fund ridiculous projects such as a Minneapolis sculpture garden and a resort chalet at Giant’s Ridge.

To underscore the amount of wasteful spending being proposed by the Democrat majorities, a new “30 Days of Wasteful Spending” campaign has begun. TAX FREEDOM DAY (BUT NOT YET IN MN)
April 18th is the day this year when most of America’s taxpayers have collectively earned enough money to pay their tax bill. In other words, hardworking Americans will spend 108 days toiling for federal, state and local governments this year (five days more than in 2012).
Minnesotans will spend an additional week working to pay for government spending. Tax Freedom Day for Minnesota is actually April 23rd. Only six states take longer to pay the government tab than Minnesota and we are just one day quicker than California.
It will be much later next year if the Democrats get their way…

Hailstones the size of boulders have rained down on villages in southern India. At least nine people were killed when the violent weather hit several villages in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The hailstorm which lasted for almost 20 minutes, destroyed crops, houses and live stock, causing devastating financial implications for residents. It was once-in-lifetime experience for people living in seven villages in Chevella, Moinabad and Shankarpally. The hailstones started falling from the sky on Tuesday night and covered the entire villages under the snow-like blanket. Some women were seen attempting to sweep up the massive boulders using flimsy brushes more suited to lighter debris. Dr K. Sitarama, director, Meteorological Centre Hyderabad, said: 'The hailstorm was caused by an intense thunderstorm. 'Such occurances are highly localised and restricted to a small area.' The storm in the south was extremely rare as the deadliest hailstorms, and perhaps the largest hailstones, in the world occur on the Deccan Plateau of northern India and in Bangladesh.

As a medic large scale events always interest me and for about a dozen years or so the Service I worked for had a few events, one, held yearly, which over the course of a 4 day period could bring in well over a 100, 000 people, to a town of 15,000. We staged additional medics on bikes, gators, additional ‘truck’, and an aid tent downtown. I always enjoyed it and although it got busy we never had any ‘disasters’.
