Here’s where we are on Obama’s gun control proposals:

• Today, the Nut-Left Democrats on the Senate Judiciary voted to report the Feinstein gun ban –which could ban between 50% and 80% of guns and magazines in circulation today. It may not even get a majority in the Senate – much less the 60 votes needed to pass. And it is being pushed primarily to allow anti-gun Democrats from pro-gun states to pretend to be pro-gun.
• Tuesday, the Judiciary Committee passed, by a 10-to-8 vote, the universal gun registry bill. Chief sponsor Chuck Schumer has been unable to achieve Republican support from anyone other than the anti-gun Illinois Republican Mark Kirk. Therefore, unless another Republican sells out at the last minute, we believe we can successfully filibuster this ill in the full Senate.
• Tuesday, by a vote of 14-to-4, the Judiciary Committee also reported a Boxer bill that would increase, by $10 million, the funding for an existing school safety program. The money could be used for armed guards, as the NRA proposes, or it could be used for an anti-gun study. It is therefore neither inherently “pro-gun’ nor “anti-gun.” We have said we would oppose proceeding to Boxer if it is a vehicle for votes on other anti-gun measures – but that we would not object to its passage, without amendment, by “unanimous consent.”
• This brings us to the central battlefield: Last week, the committee reported, by a vote of 11-to-7, the Veterans Gun Ban, S. 54. The lone GOP vote in favor came from Chuck Grassley, who indicated he would oppose the bill on the Senate floor unless it was improved from the committee-reported version.

As we see it, the chief strategic objective is now to keep gun control votes from coming to the Senate floor by opposing the “motion to proceed” to any bill which is going to be used as a vehicle for gun votes.

That would certainly mean that senators should oppose moving to proceed to universal gun registries or the Veterans Gun Ban. But it also means that we oppose moving to proceed to so-called non-controversial bills, such as Boxer, if those bills are being brought up as a vehicle for anti-gun amendments.

ACTION: Contact your senator. Ask him to oppose any motion to proceed – by filibuster if necessary – to the Feinstein gun ban, the universal gun registry bill, the Veterans Gun Ban (S. 54), or to any other piece of legislation being brought up as a vehicle for votes on these anti-gun proposals.

Letter to the Gun Grabbing DFLers in Minnesota..

The problems with the proposed ‘Universal Background Checks’ on private transfers include:

The existing background checks don’t impede criminals: Most criminals obtain guns through theft, straw purchasers, or through the same black market that moves other illicit goods such as drugs and stolen property.

Private transfer background checks would not have prevented the recent tragedies our nation has experienced: The murderers at Virginia Tech, the Batman Movie, and Representative Gabrielle Giffords‘ event in Tucson all passed background checks. The killers at Columbine had a friend buy their guns, and the Newtown murderer stole the guns he used after killing the rightful owner.

The already unreliable national background check system has experienced delays or halted sales nationwide due to errors, system overloads, and technical problems, and adding private transfers to the current system will further overload it and cost taxpayers millions of additional dollars that could instead be spent on programs that would actually reduce crime.

Firearms purchased legitimately through private transfers are rarely used in violent crime. There are, however, numerous instances of persons in immediate need of a firearm for self-defense being unreasonably delayed days to weeks by the current “instant” background check system.

If all firearms transfers require government permission to proceed, then the government need only withhold that permission in order to halt all legal transfers. A right delayed is a right denied.

Private transfer background checks also represent a step toward federal registration of guns and gun owners, which is something that has been historically demonstrated to be of little use for stopping or tracking criminals.

Don’t just Do Something; Do Something that Works:

Keep violent criminals behind bars: While keeping guns away from criminals and lunatics is very difficult in a free society, keeping criminals and lunatics where they cannot get their hands on guns has proven to be extremely effective. Violent crime has been reduced by more than 50% in the past 20 years even though the number of guns and gun owners has gone up dramatically during that time.

Put an end to imaginary Gun-Free Zones: Millions of armed, responsible citizens walk the streets of this nation every day without incident. It is ludicrous to suggest that these same people cannot be trusted around schools, churches, or government buildings. Firearms misuse among lawful carriers is extremely rare, and though they have often stopped criminals in their tracks, a person legally carrying a firearm shooting the wrong person or innocent bystanders is almost unheard of. A cardboard sign declaring a space to be “gun-free” is naive, irresponsible, and an invitation to predators.

Restricting lawful access and use of guns will never deny illicit access and use of guns. The National Coalition to Stop the Ban are representatives of groups and organizations all over the nation. With the attached letter, we put on notice any politician, firearms industry member, or organization that we are determined to protect, defend, and extend Second Amendment rights by every means at our disposal.

For instance, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports: Crime in the United States Table 1, violent crimes in the US have dropped by nearly 50% in the last twenty years.  In 1992, there were 757.7 violent crimes per 100,000 people.  In 2011, there were only 386.3 violent crimes per 100,000 people.  That’s a reduction of 49%.

In the same Table 1, we also see that there were 9.3 homicides per 100,000 people in 1992 and that number dropped to 4.7 homicides per 100,000 in 2011.  That’s a reduction of 49.4% in the homicide rate in the past twenty years.

No way. No d*&^ way. These are my neighbors, friends, and family. We work our collective butts off, trying to keep these people safe! You’d have us turn our weapons on them?
I, and most of my fellow officers will not be a party to this. We are PEACE KEEPERS. We are SHEEP-DOGS.
We are not “goons” or “stormtroopers” at the beckon call of some schmuck out to make his name by chasing tragedies.
If you want to disarm the people of Iowa, then you strap on a vest, and take them yourself you authoritarian coward.

Mass Shootings Do Little to Change State Gun Laws

I work in EMS. No I am no ‘specialist’ I took care of people, now I teach people,  I saw people at their worst and best. I treated injuries from many ‘objects’ including gun shots..But dammit, taking guns, legislating guns  is NOT going to solve the damn problem and I just hate reading articles like the one here. Some sanctimonious assO..Damn..Get off your effing high horse!! Tell me how TEXAS gun laws would have made any difference on a damn MILITARY base?

Texas: There’s been no effort to tighten gun control in Texas since Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, 39, killed 13 and wounded 32 at a military processing center at Fort Hood in 2009.

In 2011, legislators passed two bills that gave gun carriers greater freedom to take their weapons to more places. One bill restricted employers from prohibiting guns from vehicles in parking areas and another allowed foster parents to carry handguns while transporting their foster children, as long as they are licensed carriers.

NBC Medical Editor Okay With Publishing Gun Owner Addresses: ‘We’re Not Outing Child Molesters’

During a panel discussion on Tuesday’s NBC Today, chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman voiced her support for a New York newspaper, The Journal News, publishing a list of addresses of local gun owners: “You have these sort of blind assumptions that when your child goes over to play with another kid, he or she is going to be safe. And I think that has been now negated. So I have no problem….we’re not outing child molesters, this is a legal transaction, it’s a public transaction.” Snyderman’s declaration was prompted by fellow panelist, advertising executive Donny Deutsch, also standing by the paper’s controversial action: “I think it’s a great idea, I’ll tell you why. I’ve got two little girls at home and I would like to know if they’re going on a play date in a house where there’s a gun….when you have a gun, you are setting yourself up as somebody different. It’s your choice…”

ABC Uses Gabby Giffords for Massive Push to Fight ‘Gun Warfare in America’

ABC on Tuesday began a multi-show push to promote the gun control crusade of Gabby Giffords and her husband. Good Morning America‘s George Stephanopoulos kicked off the program by trumpeting, ” The most famous face affected by gun violence fights back. Gabby Giffords announcing direct action against gun warfare in America.” (Gun warfare? As of 2012, crime is at a 20 year low in America. The murder rate has dropped by almost half.) More of Diane Sawyer‘s interview with Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly will air on the January 8 World News and Nightline. Giffords, who was grievously injured in a 2011 shooting in Arizona, only uttered two words during the morning segment. Stephanopoulos narrated, explaining that the couple is starting a “campaign for responsible changes to gun laws.” He added that they will be “working with politicians to take high-powered gun lobbyists head-on.”

CNN did its best to promote former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ push for stricter gun laws on Tuesday. “And if you think about it, if Gabby Giffords came knocking on my door, office door on Capitol Hill, I would have to let her in,” swooned anchor Carol Costello. Correspondent David Mattingly directed viewers to her website’s fundraising section: “[I]f you go to the website that they’ve set up now, the Americans for Responsible Solutions, the first thing you see there is a big window where you can click on it to donate.”

Networks Celebrate Hillary Clinton’s Return to Work and ‘Prank Gift’

All three network evening newscasts on Monday found time to tout Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s return to work after hospitalization for a blood clot, “clearly enjoying a prank gift” from her staff and being greeted by a “standing ovation.” NBC’s Nightly News devoted a full report to the development, with anchor Brian Williams declaring: “…we got our first official look at Secretary of State Hillary Clinton since she emerged from the hospital. It came in the form of some still photos of her first day back at work, a view of her carefully managed by her team after a tough couple of weeks.”

He goes from running for his life in Jurassic Park to a Preacher Man in Justified (*disclaimer: Have no damn clue what ‘Justified’ is.
