At the end of 1995 and stretching into January 1996, the federal government “shut down” because of an impasse between President Bill Clinton and House Republicans led by then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich. The issue was increased taxes vs. less spending. Sound familiar? The government reopened when a bipartisan agreement was reached to balance the budget by 2003. Now the national debt is racing toward an unsustainable $17 trillion.

This time around it isn’t about closing government. It’s about “sequestration,” which President Barack Obama, the Democrats and their big media toadies are styling as economic Armageddon.

On Tuesday, following another vacation and a round of golf with the disgraced Tiger Woods, President Obama appeared in the Eisenhower Executive Office building next to the White House. Behind him on risers, looking like a church choir but without the robes, were his usual Greek chorus of potential victims should Republicans cut spending by a single dollar.

Fits Buck Ofama pretty darn well I would say..

The shocking moment came soon after when Applewhite commented in regards to a question from Rep. Sherry Appleton (D) regarding the backlash to drones.

“My opinion is that the way that we’re currently using drones in warfare, we’re moving away from indiscriminate killing to discriminate killing,” said Applewhite, followed by gasps from the audience.

Appleton’s comments could ring true in light of the reports of over 178 children dead overseas due to drone strikes. It was also recently reported that over 40% of drone casualties are innocents.

The country that invented Nazism sets up national gun registry
Something very instructive just happened in Germany.
Germany just implemented “a vast registry that details every legal gun owner in the country, along with information about all of their firearms.”
They did this, based on records that, in some cases, “were kept on index cards across what used to be 551 separate local registries.”
Thus, with everyone’s name already on an index card (read:  4473 forms) in what was effectively a “universal background check,” it was a small step to a national gun registry.
Not surprisingly, “gun rights groups” in Germany raised no real opposition.  ”We are used to it,” said one.
Now, in the words of The Washington Post:
     If they are preparing a raid on a house, they can scout the address in the database to be better prepared for what weapons might lie within.  Before the database, they could only guess at overall numbers, and finding the weapons registered to a certain address had been laborious.
Do we need any better indication of why “universal background checks” are the most insidious aspect of Barack Obama’s gun control?
We know that gun confiscation is the ultimate endgame for many of the gun grabbers on the Left.  Consider just a few, recent well-known cases:
* “Confiscation could be an option,” declared New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in a radio interview (December 27, 2012).
* “We cannot have big guns out here,” said Iowa Rep. Dan Muhlbauer. “Even if you have them, I think we need to start taking them.” (Interview with the Iowa Daily Times Herald, December 19, 2012.)
* “No one is allowed to be armed. We’re going to take all the guns,” said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of the New Orleans police, right before several law-enforcement agencies began confiscating the firearms of lawful gun owners in the wake of Hurricane Katrina (2005).
The task of confiscating guns is much easier when the government has a registration list.  And that is the number one reason gun owners should oppose background checks, because they give federal bureaucrats the framework for a national registration system.
If Obama gets his way, we will be much further down road to giving the Andrew Cuomos of the world the registration lists they need.
Some liberal gun-grabbers are trying to paint it as “non-controversial.”  But this hideous provision requiring every American to get the permission of the government before exercising their Second Amendment rights must be stopped.
ACTION:  Click here to contact your Senators and Representative.  Insist that they oppose the national background check, which would set the framework for a national gun registry and confiscation.

A severe winter storm that has raged in Lebanon since the weekend has claimed the lives of four people and forced the closure of schools across the country and some mountainous roads.

The Beirut suburb of Hay al-Sellom witnessed some of the worst devastation caused by the heavy winds and rain and raised fears that buildings in the area could collapse.

Lebanese Red Cross official George Kettaneh told the Voice of Lebanon radio station late Monday that four people died and 55 others were injured as a result of traffic accidents caused by rains and floods.

A homeless man was also found dead in Beirut Monday. Cold weather contributed to his death.

Don’t be intimidated….

As a young boy I was shot by a man whose clear intent was to kill me as I had deliberately, by throwing broken bricks at him, interrupted his attempt to rape a young teen-aged girl, allowing her to escape. To this day I can still see the evil in his face and the sun glistening off the barrel of the pistol he aimed in my direction. As I turned and began to run away he fired hitting me in back. The bullet entering my chest felt as if someone had hit me with baseball bat followed immediately by an excruciating burning sensation as I fell to the ground from the impact.   Perhaps it was the adrenaline, but I was able scramble to my feet and run as far as I could until finally passing out from the shock and loss of blood.   Fortunately, someone came to my rescue and took me to a military hospital and the first step on my journey to the United States.

During an appearance on CBS’ ‘Face the Nation,’ House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi suggested that President Obama use the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling and dodge a legislative showdown.

She said, “If I were president, I would use the 14th Amendment, which says that the debt of the United States will always be paid.”

Judge Napolitano targeted Pelosi’s interpretation of the amendment, saying, “Mrs. Pelosi has essentially taken a small phrase in the 14th Amendment and extrapolated it well beyond its original meaning or even any common sense.”

 Harry Reid is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Senate  – Harry Reid can’t get no respect, TheDC’s Alex Pappas reports:”Louisiana Sen. David Vitter called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid an ‘idiot’ on Monday for saying the damage from Hurricane Katrina was ‘nothing in comparison’ to Hurricane Sandy. ‘Sadly, Harry Reid has again revealed himself to be an idiot, this time gravely insulting Gulf Coast residents,’ Vitter wrote on Twitter.”This verbal assault on Reid comes just weeks after House Speaker John Boehnerreportedly told him to “go f#ck yourself” — twice. It’s unclear if Reid proscribes to the much-lauded “sticks and stones” philosophy or whether names actually hurt him.
