Note to Barack Obama: Spare us the snide sarcasm and the dripping contempt. Obama’s condescending state of the union speech shows, once again, why gun owners don’t trust him.

“They deserve a vote,” hollered Obama, pointing to drooling anti-gun activists in the galleries.

Well, so did we.

Veterans deserved a vote on whether they would receive due process from a court of law before having their constitutional gun rights taken away. But, when Senator Chuck Schumer threatened to filibuster the DoD authorization bill in order to block that amendment, it didn’t happen.

Gun owners deserved a vote on Sen. John Thune‘s reciprocity legislation—allowing concealed carry holders to carry their firearms from one state into another.  But Democratic Leader Harry Reid made sure each controversial bill coming before the Senate was filled with the maximum number of allowable amendments, so Thune’s amendment couldn’t be offered.

Gun owners deserved a vote on appropriations language to block 16,000 IRS agents from imprisoning those who refused to comply with the anti-gun ObamaCare law.  But Reid carefully manipulated the Senate rules to insure the ObamaCare-related votes were kept to a minimum.From responsible budgeting to gun rights, Reid’s office became the graveyard for votes on issues of interest to conservatives.

Reps. Stockman & Broun circulate letter to KILL ALL GUN CONTROL

So what can gun owners do?  We can create a groundswell of support for what Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) is doing in the House.

Rep. Stockman has just told GOA that he and Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) will be circulating a letter asking the House leadership to refuse to bring up anti-gun legislation that is NOT supported by a majority of the Republican members of the House of Representatives.

Stockman’s effort could potentially kill ALL GUN CONTROL in the House.

We know, we know.  We believe that gun control should die if only one constitutionalist-representative opposes it — or even if none do.  But, as a practical matter, if 117 congressmen sign a letter demanding that Boehner not bring up a gun control bill opposed by those 117 congressmen, gun control will die.  Without that letter, Democrats will join with anti-gun Republicans, and gun control will pass.

Wis. sheriff urges citizens to get gun training

A Wisconsin sheriff says he released an ad calling on residents to defend themselves because the old model of having a citizen call 911 and wait for help isn’t always the best option.

In the ad, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. tells residents that when it comes to personal safety: “I need you in the game.” He urges citizens to learn to use firearms so they can “fight back” until authorities arrive.

Congress will not be the same next year

In the future, when people think back to the 2012 elections, there will be a few watershed moments that will stand out.

Tuesday, July 31, will be one of those significant dates and moments.

Gun Owners of America jumped behind three important candidates early on during this election cycle.  And GOA is happy to report that all three candidates won yesterday in their respective run-offs or primaries:  Ted Cruz for Texas Senate, Steve Stockman for House District 36 in Texas, and Rep. Paul Broun in Georgia.

Congress will not be the same next year, as a result.

Ted Cruz is a 100% gun rights supporter with a proven track record of leadership.  As the former Texas Solicitor General, Cruz pulled together a coalition of thirty-one states to support the Heller case in arguing that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms.

Steve Stockman, as a Congressman in the mid-1990s, drafted legislation to repeal gun control laws from the books.  Rep. Stockman also opposed every single attempt to restrict your gun rights, earning a perfect A+ rating from GOA and every national gun group in the country.  Like Cruz, he will be a powerful advocate for 2nd Amendment rights.

And then there is Rep. Paul Broun in Georgia.  For the past several years, he as been THE pro-gun leader in the House of Representatives.  As the head of the Second Amendment Task Force in Congress, Broun has used his platform to advance pro-gun legislation and rally opposition against gun control.

Cruz, Stockman and Broun are all the heavy favorites to win in November.

GOA continues to go state by state to get rid of the people who threaten gun rights and put fresh faces into the Congress.

But that’s only if you succeed in buying a gun in the first place! Create a national firearms registry overseen by the Federal Government. Invoke Draconian penalties for bookkeeping errors related to the Federal Firearms Database. It gets worse though. Sarah Brady and her allies in Congress want to force you to take a written exam to prove that you are “fit” to exercise your Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. I’m outraged by this, and I know you are too. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that gun registration has historically laid the groundwork for total firearm confiscation. Citizen disarmament is the watchword of tyrants everywhere. In fact, the most brutal dictators of the last century were famous for their gun registration and confiscation schemes. But H.R. 45, Obama’s National Gun Registry and Citizen Disarmament Act, is more than just a forced registration of all firearms in America. The bill also makes it increasingly difficult to buy a gun in the first place. Taken right out of Sarah Brady’s Christmas wish list, H.R. 45 includes a laundry list of new restrictions on firearms purchases.
