A cafeteria fight at Minneapolis South High School escalated into a melee involving hundreds of students Thursday, spurred by what parents and students said are growing racial tensions between Somali-American students and others.
Police said that 200 to 300 students shoved, kicked and threw bottles at one other and that extra Minneapolis police officers were called in to break up the fighting. Three students and one staff member were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, and police said rioting and disorderly conduct charges could be filed. (Star Tribune)

Hackers take over federal website, threatens ‘war’ on U.S. government

A group of computer hackers, angry over the suicide of an Internet freedom activist who had been under investigation from the Obama administration’s Justice Department, took over a federal website early Saturday and announced it is “declaring war on the U.S. government.”

The group, which calls itself Anonymous, took over the website of the U.S. Justice Department’s Sentencing Commission, www.ussc.gov, and threatened to release sensitive government data and use computer-code based “warheads” against other sites.

The attack is part of a much broader backlash percolating in the online world against the Justice Department’s prosecution of Aaron Swartz, an Internet activist who killed himself Jan. 11.

Dem Rep: Women should serve in combat, but shouldn’t use assault weapons

On the very same day that Defense Secretary Leon Panettalifted the ban on women serving in active combat zones, a Democratic congresswoman from New York argued that assault weapons are actually difficult for women to handle and should therefore be banned.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy — a strong proponent for women serving in military combat roles — appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight Thursday to make the case for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban.  To that end, McCarthy argued that women should use traditional rifles rather than assault rifles because the former would would be “easier for a woman” to use.

Guns are only answer to criminal government

Are private firearms really necessary in society run by representative government?

After all, the police are there to protect us from criminals. And the politicians serve the interests of the people.

Right.

Dear Home Depot:

Tonight I discovered the Home Depot does not support the 2nd Amendment, and the right to bear arms.

I was shopping with my wife, and 7 year old daughter, picking out paint colors for our new home. We had several items in our cart, and were having our paint shaken when a store associate approached me and asked to speak to me. He asked me to remove my weapon from the store, as Home Depot is a “weapon free zone.” I quietly said that I would find another place to shop, and left the store. On my way out the door I checked just to make sure, and sure enough, there was no sign on your door stating no firearms allowed.

I am an Air Force veteran, and possess a valid license to carry a concealed weapon within the state of Iowa. So I left the Home Depot and drove down to my local Mendards store, where they had no problem with my legal carry of a weapon. You can see from the receipt below that you missed out on a fair chunk of money, and this is just the first trip of many as we renovate our newly purchased home. I will also make sure to let everyone I know, that the Home Depot doesn’t support the 2nd Amendment, and somehow believes that criminals will follow their “no weapon zone.”
