Dear Mr. MaddMedic:
Thank you for contacting me to share your opposition to the United Nation‘s Arms Trade Treaty. I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, and I share your opposition to any measures that infringe upon the right to bear arms.
As a retired Marine and avid outdoorsman, I am an experienced firearms owner and user and believe individuals should have the right to keep and bear arms for the protection of one’s home, property, family, and person. I am especially proud of my “A” rating from the National Rifle Association. Any agency or government actions that violate your Second Amendment rights – whether intentional or not – are unacceptable.
You may be interested to know that I am a cosponsor of the United Nations Transparency, Accountability, and Reform Act (H.R. 2829), which would make funding from the United States to the United Nations conditional on increased transparency from the organization and withhold funding if certain policies are not adopted by the organization. We should pursue our country’s goals and objectives without allowing the United Nations to override our actions. I will support those actions that are in our nation’s best interests and preserve its sovereignty – with or without U.N. approval.
Rest assured, I will continue to support all efforts that secure a person’s right to own firearms and promote efforts that encourage gun owners to engage in gun safety and responsible firearm practices.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to do so again regarding any issue of importance to you.
