Thank you for contacting me about the Undetectable Firearms Act. I appreciate hearing from you.
The Undetectable Firearms Act prohibits the possession or manufacture of firearms that are undetectable by metal detectors and X-ray machines. The law protects the public by preventing criminals and terrorists from sneaking weapons into protected environments, like airplanes.
The law was originally enacted in 1988, but it was scheduled to expire on December 9, 2013. H.R. 3626 is a bipartisan bill that extends the Undetectable Firearms Act for an additional ten years. The Senate passed this bill by unanimous consent, and President Obama signed the bill into law on December 9, 2013.
Thank you again for contacting me, and please don’t hesitate to contact me again regarding this issue or any other issue of concern to you in the future.
