News/Gun Bits…….

The United States is not like the rest of the world on gun control

Why energies must be directed toward aggressive mental health initiatives

Guns are a significant part of American society. Taking them away won’t help.

Guns are vital for protection in America. The acts of the few shouldn’t affect citizens’ rights to guns, which is protected by the 2nd Amendment.

‘Progressive’ fantasies about guns

The idea that Americans have a constitutional right to own and possess firearms appalls today’s progressives. They believe that if they could just rid the nation of guns, then armed robberies, gang violence, mass shootings, rape, violent crime and maybe even suicide would vanish and we could all live peacefully ever after.

If you consider the ‘tempo’ of our lives it is obvious that a large part of them is driven by the media news cycles. Good news tends to die while bad news repeats ad nauseum.

People are suggestive creatures. Few humans are truly independent and 100% creative. What this means is that people follow the herd. There is a tremendous tendency of people to obsess on news and trends.

I was talking about what we would call ‘normal’ people. Add mental illness and maladjustment to the equation along with the media echo chamber and you have a breeding ground for irrational and copycat behavior.

From one of the first mass casualty incidents Columbine to the present whenever an incident occurs the media goes into full court press and constantly repeats and reanalyzes and reinterprets the event until the next one. Weeks on end. Normal people are saddened and perhaps angry that such wanton killing occurs. People who are disaffected and who feel persecuted or otherwise angry with society see these sad events as inspiration to do the same thing themselves.

The obsession of some people is unhealthy and most of the time other people know that the person who just shot up a school or a mall was obsessive to a dangerous fault before they took the actions they did.

Obsession is unhealthy no matter what the subject is of the obsession. Obsession replaces logical socially acceptable thinking with skewed and irrational logic. People who are like this generally cannot mask their tendency to think in this manner so others do know about their unhealthy attitudes.

The best course of our society in reflection upon the shootings we see is to not start up the self sustaining echo chamber that the media does every time these happen. We need to be brave enough to tell someone who either knows the obsessive person or who has a measure of authority that this person is not well mentally.

Our society has created taboos that we are not allowed to cross. We cannot talk or treat some people in ways they do not approve of. It is not allowed to criticize or even just critique people over behaviors or beliefs. As a result we have been afraid to say anything when someone we know is really acting irrationally. Mental illness is now one of the taboo topics we are not allowed to talk about or criticize. This is not a good.thing.

Start with moderating the politically correct crowd and toning down the news and we can end 95% of these shootings by just eliminating the environment we are in at present as it is one of the primary causes of these dreadful events.
