Every time we do an ambulance transport, the patient or legal guardian (an adult and in a proper state of mind) signs our computer screen which advises them of their privacy rights, our adherence to HIPAA, and billing authorization. They must check all three boxes in order to sign. I tell my patients that the ambulance is like Las Vegas, what happens there, stays there. I smell a huge class action lawsuit in the future against Google and their ilk for pilfering health information that was not directly authorized.

BTW….hiding such authorization in 50 paragraphs of legal mumbo-jumbo in an end-user-license-agreement doesn’t sound like fair business practice to me.
