Legislative Shoot-out Expected in the U.S. Senate

Within the next 72 hours, gun owners should expect votes in the U.S. Senate on:

* Outlawing ATF bullet bans

* Concealed Carry Reciprocity

* Prohibiting Senate anti-gun amendments.

We expect more gun-related showdowns in the next 72 hours than in the next 9 months combined.  At least 5 gun-related amendments are expected on the Budget Resolution — a once-a-year vehicle that gives senators an opportunity to get hundreds of votes on any issue they choose.

And at least five senators have chosen to get votes on guns.

We have already told you about the Crapo amendment to shut down Operation Choke Point — which has been used by Eric Holder to try to financially strangle the gun industry.

But there are other amendments as well:

* An amendment by Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and David Vitter (R-LA) to prohibit ATF from banning bullets — in the way it tried to do with AR-15 ammunition;

* Another amendment by Senator Inhofe to block any and all funding for the implementation of the UN Arms Trade Treaty;

* An amendment by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) to prohibit any more anti-gun amendments in the Senate — be they semi-auto bans, magazine bans, universal gun registries, etc. — unless anti-gunners get more Senate votes than they will ever conceivably be able to achieve;

* And there is an amendment to prohibit the ATF from copying 4473’s and using them to compile a national gun registry; and another one to push national concealed carry reciprocity — in a way that allows residents of “constitutional carry” states to carry without asking “May I?” from the government first.

It is critically important that you chime in with respect to all of these amendments.

One final point:  If you read the amendments, they are filled with “budgety” language about “reserve funds,” and so forth.  But the important thing to know is that this is an exercise in freezing in pro-gun votes.  We killed UN Arms Trade Treaty with a budget amendment like these.  And, once we freeze in our headcounts, we can stick these same amendments onto the non-filibusterable reconciliation bill — or on the appropriations bills when they begin to move in a couple of months.

But if you hate bullet bans — or if you like national concealed carry reciprocity — or if you want to permanently preclude anti-gun amendments in the Senate — now is the time to make your voice heard.

ACTIONContact your U.S. Senators. Ask them to support:

* The Inhofe & Vitter amendments outlawing bullet bans and implementation of the UN Arms Trade Treaty;

* The Lee amendment, requiring unattainable supermajorities to ever bring up any gun control in the Senate again;

* The Crapo amendment to shut down Operation Choke Point;

* Plus amendments to push concealed carry reciprocity and prohibit the ATF from copying 4473’s.

Dang Gorebal Warmening….

A severe winter storm that has raged in Lebanon since the weekend has claimed the lives of four people and forced the closure of schools across the country and some mountainous roads.

The Beirut suburb of Hay al-Sellom witnessed some of the worst devastation caused by the heavy winds and rain and raised fears that buildings in the area could collapse.

Lebanese Red Cross official George Kettaneh told the Voice of Lebanon radio station late Monday that four people died and 55 others were injured as a result of traffic accidents caused by rains and floods.

A homeless man was also found dead in Beirut Monday. Cold weather contributed to his death.

This Christmas season saw dozens of episodes of black mob violence in malls, clubs, streets and other places around the country. Such attacks are part of an epidemic of hundreds of cases of black mob violence in more than 80 cities over the last three years, as documented in the book “White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence to America and how the media ignore it.”

Don’t be intimidated….

As a young boy I was shot by a man whose clear intent was to kill me as I had deliberately, by throwing broken bricks at him, interrupted his attempt to rape a young teen-aged girl, allowing her to escape. To this day I can still see the evil in his face and the sun glistening off the barrel of the pistol he aimed in my direction. As I turned and began to run away he fired hitting me in back. The bullet entering my chest felt as if someone had hit me with baseball bat followed immediately by an excruciating burning sensation as I fell to the ground from the impact.   Perhaps it was the adrenaline, but I was able scramble to my feet and run as far as I could until finally passing out from the shock and loss of blood.   Fortunately, someone came to my rescue and took me to a military hospital and the first step on my journey to the United States.

During an appearance on CBS’ ‘Face the Nation,’ House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi suggested that President Obama use the 14th Amendment to raise the debt ceiling and dodge a legislative showdown.

She said, “If I were president, I would use the 14th Amendment, which says that the debt of the United States will always be paid.”

Judge Napolitano targeted Pelosi’s interpretation of the amendment, saying, “Mrs. Pelosi has essentially taken a small phrase in the 14th Amendment and extrapolated it well beyond its original meaning or even any common sense.”

Why insult Rodney Dangerfield like this???
 Harry Reid is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Senate  — Harry Reid can’t get no respect, TheDC’s Alex Pappas reports:”Louisiana Sen. David Vitter called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid an ‘idiot’ on Monday for saying the damage from Hurricane Katrina was ‘nothing in comparison’ to Hurricane Sandy. ‘Sadly, Harry Reid has again revealed himself to be an idiot, this time gravely insulting Gulf Coast residents,’ Vitter wrote on Twitter.”This verbal assault on Reid comes just weeks after House Speaker John Boehnerreportedly told him to “go f#ck yourself” — twice. It’s unclear if Reid proscribes to the much-lauded “sticks and stones” philosophy or whether names actually hurt him.
