Will Sen. McConnell force the ATF to cry “uncle” on the AR-15 Ammo Ban?

Will Sen. McConnell force the ATF to cry “uncle” on the AR-15 Ammo Ban?

ACTIONContact both of your Senators, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, as well.  Ask them to hold up the Loretta Lynch nomination, particularly if the ATF continues its crusade to wage war on AR-15’s by banning common ammunition, such as SS109 and M855 ammo.

The “Ball” is now in McConnell’s Court

The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to advance, on Wednesday, the nomination of Loretta Lynch to be Attorney General.

This, of course, comes roughly a week since the ATF announced its intention to ban common “green tip” AR-15 ammunition.

Once the nomination is voted out of committee, it goes to the full Senate.  But whether she gets a vote in the full chamber is entirely up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

As a tactical matter, Gun Owners of America is encouraging the Senate to postpone any vote on the Attorney General nominee.  After all, this is what we’re dealing with:

* Loretta Lynch is a protégé of anti-gun New York Senator Chuck Schumer;

* Lynch has made it clear that she would continue to enforce Barack Obama’s unlawful amnesty “executive actions” (which would, ultimately, add 8 million anti-gun voters to the rolls);

* Lynch was asked about the Justice Department’s efforts to eradicate the Second Amendment by cutting off credit under Operation Choke Point — and she feigned ignorance;

* Lynch is expected to continue every unlawful anti-gun action by Holder, including the pending effort to demonize AR-15’s by banning certain AR-15 ammunition;

* There is no evidence that Lynch is less anti-gun than the current Attorney General Eric Holder — and her public record has gained Lynch the well-deserved nickname “Holder in a skirt”; and,

* Unlike Holder, Lynch is being groomed to fill the Kennedy or Scalia seat on the Supreme Court, resulting in the reversal of the pro-gun rulings in the Heller and McDonald cases.

Barack Obama is demanding that the Senate confirm Loretta Lynch.  At the same time, he is working to utterly humiliate, debase, and demolish Senate Republicans in connection with their simple pleas that “they deserve a vote” with respect to Obama’s illegal immigration policies — a vote which is being blocked by a Harry Reid filibuster.

Make no mistake about it:  Obama is nothing more than a school-yard bully.  The law and the Constitution are no impediment to him, and his “gang” of liberal media elites will mercilessly beat up anyone who dares to challenge his lawless exercise of authority.

The ability to hold up the Lynch nomination is one of the few tools Republicans have in their tool shed to resist Obama’s lawless actions.  It is one of the few levers we have to force the ATF to step back from its efforts to effectively outlaw AR-15’s by outlawing common AR-15 ammunition.

So why would any Republican support Lynch’s nomination, while the Justice Department continues to push its unlawful gun control?  Well, Orrin Hatch points to the fact that the confirmation of Lynch would send Eric Holder packing.

The problem is this:  After being cited for contempt of Congress, Holder is “yesterday’s news.”  He’s not going to be confirmed to the Supreme Court.  He’s not going to cast the deciding vote to overturn Heller and McDonald.  And he’s not going to be confirmed for another Cabinet appointment.

Not so with Lynch.  This is the beginning of her anti-gun crusade, not the end.

1. Contact Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.  Ask him to hold up the Lynch nomination, particularly if the ATF continues its crusade to wage war on AR-15’s by banning common AR-15 ammunition, such as SS109 and M855 ammo.

GOA: Harry Reid Buys Anti-gun Votes from his “Secret Room”

Harry Reid Buys Anti-gun Votes from his
“Secret Room”

This battle is ObamaCare II

“The most annoying thing is the phone calls.” – a Senior Senate Staffer commenting on the effectiveness of thousands of phone calls pouring into their offices (June 21, 2013)
URGENT ACTION:  A key vote in the Senate will be occurring later today or tomorrow morning.  Please call your Senators at 202-224-3121 to register your opinion, and if you live in a state with two anti-gun Senators, then use the contact list below to call Senators who are on the fence. Urge your pro-gun friends and family to do the same.
Making them “An offer they can’t refuse.”
Thursday night last week was like a scene from the Godfather.

One by one, senators shuffled into Harry Reid’s “secret room” in the Capitol, and each one (figuratively) kissed his ring and (again, figuratively) received his payment from Reid’s stack of bills.

And, by the end of the night, Reid had presumably bought enough votes to pass his anti-gun immigration amnesty bill.

Things haven’t changed a bit from ObamaCare.  Same secret room.  Same procession of supplicants.  Same massive secret bill, revealed at the very same moment Reid filed his motion to cut off debate.  Same morally challenged senators who were more than willing to have their votes bought.

Either later today or tomorrow morning, the Senate will vote on whether to cut off all debate on the massive amendment which didn’t exist until Friday morning.

There are two things to remember:  The liberal (and demonstrably partisan) Congressional Budget Office looked at the long fences, copious border agents, and Orwellian E-Verify in the base bill — and decided it would have little impact on illegal immigration, reducing it by only 25%.  This, in exchange for 8,000,000 new, largely anti-gun voters.

If Hoeven, Corker, and Schumer claim that their “super-secret probation” amendment (fences, agents, e-verify) will have any more of an impact, let’s get a CBO estimate of that.

Second, the one thing Schumer has consistently refused to do is to condition his 8,000,000 new Democratic voters on the statistically demonstrable success of border security.  What does that tell you?

It says this bill is more about turning this country blue than it is about securing the border.

ACTION:  Call your Senators at 202-224-3121, especially if they are listed below.  Tell them to vote against cloture on Harry Reid’s “Godfather amendment.”
NOTE:  For those of you who live in California, New York (and other states with two anti-gun Senators), you could use this opportunity to call some of the Senators on the Target List below.
Senators Up for Grabs.  According to media reports (and Senate intelligence), the following Senators are either on the fence or are leaning towards voting “yes” on the Hoeven amendment:

—– Talking Points for Senate Offices —–
1. Vote no on the Hoeven amendment.  Vote against cloture on the Hoeven amendment.
2. Even the liberal (and very partisan) Congressional Budget Office said that the underlying amnesty bill would have little impact on illegal immigration, reducing it by only 25%.  This would be true — even after building long fences, adding more border agents, and establishing an Orwellian E-Verify system for workers.
3. Given that all the Hoeven amendment would do is fund more of the same agents, fences, and e-verify that CBO just said wouldn’t stop illegal immigration, you would be foolish to pass it without getting a new CBO estimate.
4. The one thing that Senator Chuck Schumer has consistently refused to do is to condition his 8,000,000 new (mostly anti-gun) voters on the proposition that the border will first be secured in a statistically demonstrable manner.
5.  According to Breitbart, for all of the tens of billions of dollars of (non-offset) money Hoeven spends, it proceeds to newly make it lawful for illegal immigrants to PROSPECTIVELY overstay their visas and nevertheless get green cards under Gang of Eight amnesty provisions.  Hence, it rewards illegals who PROSPECTIVELY violate our immigration laws, making it worse than the Gang of Eight draft.
6.  Also according to Breitbart, Hoeven now contains a laundry-list of non-germane Cornhusker Kickback-style giveaways — intended to buy votes in exactly the same way Reid did on ObamaCare.  Hence, Hoeven has correctly been billed as ObamaCare 2.0.
7.  Please vote against cloture on the Hoeven amendment!

Sources Report Senate Republicans Caving on Guns

Sources inside the Senate tell me that the Republican Conference is scared to death of the tactics of Senators Lee, Cruz and Paul – that it is supposedly putting them in a tough spot.

Several of the Republicans are using the Manchin-Toomey compromise plan as an excuse to cave on the gun filibuster. They claim that Senators Lee, Cruz, and Paul are running ahead of the conference in their insistence on a filibuster.

What they fail to see is that the cloture vote is the vote to stop the gun legislation from passage.

Homeschooling: The Future of Liberty
A common feature of authoritarian regimes is the criminalization of alternatives to government-controlled education. Dictators recognize the danger that free thought poses to their rule, and few things promote the thinking of “unapproved” thoughts like an education controlled by parents instead of the state. That is why the National Socialist (Nazi) government of Germany outlawed homeschooling in 1938.

Anti-Gun Legislation Continues to Move

Anti-gun rights legislation continues to move through both state and national legislatures. In Washington, the Senate Judiciary Committee has passed a pair of bills on to the full Senate. Despite efforts to reach some sort of agreement, Sen. Charles Schumer’s “Fix Gun Checks Act” has been passed out of committee by a straight 10-8 party line vote despite objections that the bill had “numerous examples of flaws…..that same Judiciary Committee is expected to consider California Senator Dianne Feinstein’s “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (S.150) tomorrow (Thursday). There are several amendments expected, but committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) says he plans to conclude work on the bill this week. Feinstein’s S 150 would ban all modern sporting rifles with a detachable magazine and any of these features: pistol grip, forward grip, folding, telescoping or detachable stock, or threaded barrel. It would also ban magazines of more than 10 round capacities. There’s no sunset provision on this bill, so the bans would, essentially, be permanent. Once again, that bill is expected to be passed out of committee on a straight party vote….Colorado legislators don’t seem to be budging on their intent to pass a ban on magazines holding more than 15 rounds- despite the fact magazine manufacturer Magpul and its key suppliers have said they’ll leave the state should that legislation pass. The magazine bill was one of five passed out of the Colorado Senate on Monday, but it’s headed back to the Colorado house for another vote because of changes made in the senate….and it’s too-early yet to say if the record turnout of gun owners and industry leaders in the Connecticut state capitol on Monday will sway the legislators from passing some-or all- of eleven proposed gun control bills. Hearings resume tomorrow (March 14) before the General Assembly’s Public Safety and Security Committee. Senate Bill 1076, banning modern sporting rifles and mandating gun registration are on that agenda.

ATTN Gun Owners: McConnell & Reid Cutting Deal on the Filibuster

The Senate Republican Leader and Senate Democratic Leader are cutting a deal on the filibuster.

You may think it is over and done with, but it is not.

Harry Reid, through Senate procedure, has kept the first day of business in the Senate going on. This allows the rules of the Senate to be changed with just a majority vote if he decides to claim the Senate’s business does not continue and constitutes itself as a new body every two years (it’s a Parliamentary thing). Meanwhile, behind the scenes Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid are cutting a deal to drastically curtail the filibuster. The left is fully on board and gearing up for this fight because they think they can get gun control through the Senate and other liberal initiatives.

GOA: 3 Reasons…

3 Reasons the GOP Lost
3 Reasons To Be Optimistic
3 Things You Can Do
Time for a little perspective:  It was a bad night for conservatives and liberty-lovers.
On Election Day, Republicans were swept out of office in one race after another – leaving them with tiny minorities in the House and Senate. The gleeful press predicted that this was just the beginning of a demographic shift that would put Democrats in control for the rest of our lifetimes.
Election night, 2012?
No.  This was Election Night, 1974.
But rather than being disconsolate and resigned to defeat, conservatives launched a plan.
They built organizations and secured votes around issues that would unite a winning electoral coalition.
Guns.  Deregulation.  Limited government.  National sovereignty.  Confronting enemies home and abroad through strength.
In fact, Gun Owners of America emerged from the wreckage of that era.
And, six years later, it was the Democrats’ turn to cry — and to wonder if they would be the permanent minority.
This is the crossroads we are at: We can continue to do business in the sorry way the congressional leadership has done it for the past four years. If we do, we will lose our country – perhaps permanently.
Or we can fight for our values and pitch our issues in ways that will cause a huge majority of the American people to support us.
We are at that crossroads — right now.
3 Reasons Republicans Lost
First, they nominated a candidate who was bad on virtually every major conservative issue – particularly guns – and who then proceeded to run to the left.
Second, they refused to fight for the things they purported to believe, particularly, guns and an end to the anti-gun ObamaCare law.  In one important gun vote (concerning registration) in this past Congress — the vote on whether to exempt 4473’s from government seizure under post-9/11 legislation — GOP Leader Mitch McConnell whipped Republicans to vote anti-gun!  By contrast, Harry Reid ended the session with a vote on a “pro-gun” bill intended to save endangered Montana Democrat Jon Tester.
Third, Congress refused to use its leverage to force Barack Obama to back down from his unconstitutional ObamaCare and anti-gun agenda. All the House and Senate GOP would have had to do is defund these unconstitutional actions of any “continuing resolution” and refuse to back down. They didn’t.
3 Reasons to be Optimistic
First, the party in power almost always suffers major losses in the sixth year of a presidency. This doesn’t mean we can sit back and wait for history to deliver us a victory, but it does mean that the wind will be to our backs.
Second, we predict that, when it’s finally implemented over the next two years, the anti-gun ObamaCare law will be every bit the nightmare we predicted it would be.
Third, we have elected a scattering of fire-breathers who may be willing to take on their leadership and force votes on guns, ObamaCare, constitutional governance – votes which are not just sops, but which are intended to transform the national debate.
